Team White claims the Ship!
Team white was victorious in a well fought battle today.
Game 1 action started with some real good speed and intensity. It took a little while to light up the scoreboard, but Big Willy Stylez buried a rebound to put Team White up 1-0. Team White went up by two when Curdog found a little gift out front of Team Black's net and tickled the twine as well. Not quite yet satisfied Big Papa Decook went hard to the net and tipped home a Sweet Mitts Hillsy shot from the point. Big Game Beeker, playing at the top of his game today slammed the door shut and earned a shutout for Team White.
Game 2 saw Team Black come to life and start to take over the play a little in the 3vs3 format. The Big Easy Emmett Mather sniped the first of the day for Team Black as he showed some nice patience at the blue line, protected the puck on his backhand, brought the puck cross his body to his forehand and slid one home. Crazy Legs Corneil, got his first of two on the day when he turned the puck over at the blueline, flew into Team White's zone and scored using a nice little move to his forehand. Team Black increased their lead to three when Bam Bam Cam Arnold made a crafty indirect pass off the boards in his own zone springing Greasy Wheelz Anderson who made no mistake on his breakaway. Downtown Brown took over from there looking real comfortable after an equipment adjustment. Brown took his turn earning a shutout and Team Black tied the day at 1.
Flipping back over to 4vs4 action Crazy Leg Corneil scored a beauty grabbing his own rebound, skated behind the net and stepped right out front as if he was invisible to Team White and finished going low blocker side. The Spazmanian Devil Paxton Mather had a real nice tip of his own, getting his stick on Boom Boom Rolo blast tying things up at 1. Both teams continued back and forth action but Big Game Beeker and Downtown Brown wouldn't allow anything by them. The series was going to come down to the fourth and deciding game.
The intense action continued into the last game of the day. The boys were flying and you could cut the tension in the crowd with a knife. Boys battled for minutes before either team could get on the board, goalies again standing tall in the cage. Team White looked to Cobra Cassey to get them on the scored board as he slithered through Team Black and beat Downtown Brown with a well placed shot. Gaining steam Team White sniped another as Big Papa Decook called his own number on a 2vs1 let go a beauty twisted wrister from the slot. Desperate to try to beat Big Game Beeker, Team Black pulled the tendy, sent many shots on net, but could not solve him.
As the buzzer sounded Team White and many members of the local media flooded the ice to celebrate and raise the Cyclone Covid Cup.
Congrats to all the boys on a fantastic, hard fought series. Next Sunday we will see the teams reset and with the help of the U11's, 5vs5 action. Can't wait!
