MINOR ATOMS DROP A PAIR OF 4-2 DECISIONS
Playing hosts again for the weekend our Cyclones came up on the short end of 4-2 games to the Waterloo Wolves and the Lambton Jr. Sting. In Saturday's action, hosting the East Division leading Waterloo Wolves, Aidan Edwards got our Cyclones on the board just 30 seconds into the contest with a solo rush after a big Carter McCluskey save. Waterloo was quick to respond, knotting things at 1 just over 2 minutes later.

Thanks in large part to McCluskey in net, the first ended tied at 1. Like the 1st our Cyclones started the 2nd quickly with a PP marker at the 38 second mark off the stick of Luke Chickowski with helpers going to Gavin Meriano and Evan Reeve. The Wolves were even quicker to respond this time, netting the equalizer some 5 seconds later and that is how the 2nd would end. Things remained deadlocked until midway through the 3rd when Waterloo capitalized on the PP to take a 3-2 lead that they wouldn't relinquish adding a late insurance marker for the 4-2 victory. Carter McCluskey took home that "Hardest Worker" Hard Hat award for his efforts between the pipes.

Sunday had our Cyclones hosting a familiar foe in Lambton as the teams battled often through tryouts and exhibition season. The offense for both teams was slow to get going as the teams battled through a scoreless 1st period. Lambton broke through just under 5 minutes into the middle frame and added to that lead 5 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into the 3rd frame. Serving notice they will not go down without a fight, Aidan Edwards finally solved the Stings' goalie 30 seconds into the period on assists from Justin Ewald and Gavin Meriano. It was back and forth action for much of the 3rd as our Cyclones failed to capitalize on several grade A scoring opportunities proving costly as the Sting would put it out of reach with 2 late 3rd period goals. Abby Stonehouse from Owen Campbell and Luke Chickowski on a goal mouth scrum with 45 seconds to go would give the crowd some late life, but the clock would run out on our Cyclones. Justin Ewald took home the "Hardest Worker" Hard Hat award for his strong two-way effort.

The 06s take to the road this week with a midweek game in Elgin and a Friday night game against the Sun County Panthers.
