OPENING WEEKEND BRINGS FIRST WIN
With 2 weeks of hard working practices under their belts, the Minor Atoms earned a weekend split with division rivals London and Windsor.

Saturday, September 19th in Ridgetown vs London Jr. Knights

A late Cyclones 3rd period rally came up short as our Cyclones fell 6-4 to division leading London in their first league action of the season. A back-and-forth first period ended with the teams knotted at 2. Aidan Edwards opened the scoring for the Cyclones assisted by Evan Sawyer. Cole Labadie responded to the Knights' equalizer with a late Cyclones goal on an assist from Jeffery MacKinnon but London evened it 20 seconds..

later. London had the lone 2nd period goal taking a 3-2 lead into the 3rd. After taking a 4-2 lead early in the 3rd the Knights built their lead to 6-2 with 2 goals 30 seconds apart midway through the frame, but our Cyclones showed tremendous heart and character battling back with 2 late goals  by Evan Sawyer and Justin Ewald with assists coming from Lucas Laprise, Gavin Meriano and Luke Chickowsik. Evan Sawyer earned the Cyclones 'Hardest Worker' hard hat of the game award. Carter McCluskey stood tall in the pipes giving the Cyclones a chance.

Sunday, September 20th at Memorial vs Windsor Jr. Spitfires

A balanced and relentless offensive attack and a strong goaltending performance from Jack Martin were the ingredients for the Cyclones first victory of the season. Luke Chickowski opened the scoring 2:30 into the first frame on a feed from Gavin Meriano and the Cyclones never looked back holding leads of 3-0 after 1, 5-0 after 2 before closing with a 7-1 victory. Justin Ewald from Luke Chickowski, and Ewald again from Chickowski and Josh Hazzard capped the first period scoring. Cole Labadie with a shorthanded effort from Jeffery MacKinnon and Aiden Edwards unassisted staked the Cyclones to a 5-0 lead heading into the 3rd. After the Spitfires broke Martin's shutout bid early in the 3rd, Gavin Meriano from Aidan Edwards and Owen Campbell and Abby Stonehouse unassisted rounded out the scoring. Aidan Edwards earned the 'Hardest Worker' hard hat of the game award.

Next action for our Cyclones is Saturday and Sunday at Memorial vs Waterloo Wolves and Lambton Jr Sting.
